Placement in the intermediate level Talisman choir is through direct audition, or by advancement from the Troubadours.  Singers in this choir are usually in grade 5 or above.  Building upon the skills acquired during the Troubadours experience, students are introduced to a higher level of musical and vocal development and learn music composed of more sophisticated musical structures, texts, voicing, and languages.

Students in Talisman are expected to practice outside of rehearsal time and demonstrate availability for additional performances. Commitment to consistent attendance, professional behavior, and high-performance standards are stressed to prepare those children who wish to progress to the highest level of the Chorus, the Bel Canto Singers.

The Talisman perform upwards of six times during the year, including our schedule of seasonal concerts and community events. On occasion, individual students may be called upon to perform with the Bel Canto Singers in major orchestral, operatic, and choral productions.

Members of both the Talisman and Bel Canto Singers are required to participate in the Choral Arts Music Program (C.A.M.P.).  This 5-7 day over-night camp program generally takes place during the month of August.  During C.A.M.P., choristers begin to learn the challenging new music that will be performed during the year.  It is also a time for fun, and many choristers form bonds of friendship that will last a lifetime!

The Talisman Choir is directed by Steven Schmidt and rehearses on Monday evenings from 6:15-8:15 PM  in the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University.
