Cantate focuses on singing and experiencing music in a welcoming choral community with musical instruction specifically geared to meet the abilities of students with physical, social, emotional, and/or intellectual challenges.

With an inclusive focus, children who may learn differently will have a sensory-friendly environment that allows for varying strategies to experience the joy of singing. This new choir is respectful and sensitive to the individual needs of the members of the choir with regard to intellectual development, communication abilities, spatial needs, and developmental diversities.

The overarching goal for this choir is to create a community that is bonded through the joy of making music. While this choir is not performance-oriented, performances could be scheduled as appropriate in small community environments.

Age Range: 6-13

Maximum Enrollment: 12 singers

Cantate is directed by Shawn Funk. This choir group will have side-by-side time with peers who are singers in the PYC core choirs, as well as, Duquesne University Music Therapy and Music Education students.

If you find that the price point is cost-prohibitive to your singer's participation, we encourage you to complete our tuition assistance application.
